Bone Grafting

You have been told by your dentist that you cannot have an implant or implants placed to replace your missing tooth or teeth simply because you do not have enough bone to support the placement of an implant. In Dr. Kollander’s office that problem is solved. Utilizing the most up to date techniques, simple or complex bone grafting procedures can be performed in our office. The procedures are performed in a pain-free manner, with local or intravenous anesthesia. Sometimes the bone grafting and implant placement can be done simultaneously.

At times, when more complex bone grafting is required, there may be an approximately six month wait following the grafting prior to the placement of the implants. In many cases, the grafting itself will fill in the edentulous jaw line, giving a more youthful appearance. But ultimately, the implants will be able to be placed, restoring cosmetics and full function. Look great and eat better!

Major Bone Grafting

Major Bone Grafting

Major bone grafting is used when there is significant bone loss due to extractions, gum disease, injury, or congenital conditions. Bone may be taken from a tissue bank or from the patient’s own body, and specialized techniques are used to protect the graft and encourage new bone growth.

In cases of severe jaw defects, larger grafts are performed in a hospital setting to restore bone structure and allow for future implant placement.

Sinus Lift Procedure

Sinus Lift Procedure

When the jawbone is too narrow to support dental implants, ridge expansion may be used to widen the bone.

This procedure creates enough space for implant placement, improving stability and long-term success.

Nerve Repositioning

Nerve Repositioning

In select cases where there is limited bone in the lower jaw, nerve repositioning may be considered to allow for dental implant placement. This advanced procedure carefully moves the nerve that provides sensation to the lower lip and chin, creating space for implants.

Because it is a complex approach, less invasive options are typically explored first. When necessary, nerve repositioning can help make implant placement possible in challenging cases.

Ridge Expansion

Ridge expansion is used when the jawbone has become too thin to support dental implants. This technique gently widens the bone and may include bone grafting to restore lost height or width, creating a stable foundation for future implant placement.

Major and Minor Bone Grafting

Major and Minor Bone Grafting

When teeth are missing, the jawbone can shrink over time, leaving insufficient bone for dental implants.

With modern bone grafting techniques, bone can be rebuilt to support implants while restoring function and natural appearance.
